I wasn’t able to watch Regine Velasquez Silver concert last November 16th at the SM Mall of Asia Arena because I already committed to giving my support to a friend whose alumni association organized a special block screening of the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 at SM North EDSA The Block to generate funds for charity.
So over the weekend, I searched Google for snippets of what happened at Regine Velasquez Silver concert and I was astounded by the news that she “lost” her voice during the concert due to some nasty virus that has also plagued many of the people close to her. Because of her predicament, she was left with no other choice but to cut her milestone concert short.
A video showed Vice Ganda joining Regine Velasquez onstage to help out a little bit and what Vice Ganda so reassuringly pointed out was my own sentiment exactly: Wala nang kailangan pang patunayan ang isang Regine Velasquez! This is her 25th Anniversary in the music industry and it goes without saying, she would not have lasted this long, much less fill a concert arena to capacity, if people think she’s nothing but a mediocre artist. I mean, certainly not for nothing was she given the title Asia’s Songbird and the too-many-to-mention accolades under her belt, right?
This is a video of Regine struggling to belt out one of her toughest songs that evening.
Indeed, Regine Velasquez “Silver” (25th Anniversary) Concert was not so much about showcasing the familiar voice that captivated millions of listeners and music lovers all over the world, but more evidently about the genuine love that exists between this artist and her fans. Regine Velasquez would have wanted this concert to be an expression of her love and gratitude to her fans, but instead it became a channel through which her fans got to send her their love and show her exactly what she means to all of them… how much impact she’s made on their lives. In certain numbers during the concert, when Regine paused and seemed to be unable to continue, the audience sang the parts for her, as if to say, “We understand, Ms. Regine, and it’s all right. We still love you. We are here for you. We’re in this together.” Watching the videos, I was deeply and utterly moved! I wasn’t even in the audience and I could feel the LOVE! I can only imagine the power that must have filled the entire venue that night and embraced Regine Velasquez — the power of love indeed!
The day after the concert, Regine Velasquez tweeted this:
Hi guys, nahihiya ako na yun lang ang naibigay ko kagabe pero you guys stayed kahit nahihirapan kayong panoorin ako you guys stayed thank you

My Personal Note To Regine Velasquez
Mrs. Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, I have loved you and your voice for 25 years. I, for one, can proudly say that many of your songs are comprised in the “soundtrack” of my life. However, even more than your voice, it’s the heart that you put into all of your songs that has continued to touch me all these years. Your desire to go on with your show so as not to let your fans down, the look of disappointment you had on your face while performing because you just couldn’t give your fans what you believe they deserve, and lastly, the free concert you promised to your fans all clearly showed the kind of heart Regine Velasquez truly has. That is why for 25 years you have remained in the hearts of the Filipinos. You have expressed your gratitude for what your fans had done for you and your family, but you’re probably not aware of what you have done for each one of us. I would bet that there was not a single soul at the arena who didn’t know the words to your songs. So thank you, Mrs. Alcasid, for being a part of the Filipino’s life — for making us believe that falling in love is one of the most wonderful things one can ever hope to experience, for making every heartache a lot more bearable, for making weddings more meaningful, for that gentle reminder that not all promises will in fact lead to a palasyo, for 25 years of bringing beautiful music into our lives! Thank you and may the good Lord continue to bless you and your family with things that would truly make your existence complete and fulfilling. Happy 25th Anniversary and GET WELL SOON!
To all Regine Velasquez Fans, watch out for Take 2 of the “Regine Velasquez Silver 25th Anniversary Concert“!
Meanwhile, I just gotta add this video here because this is one of my biggest faves — a duet by Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and her dear hubby Ogie Alcasid:
