So let’s talk about the popular “M.C.” that is not Hammer! LOL! That’s right. I am referring to the popular M.C., as in the Master Cleanse Diet. The same detox diet that Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher and Beyoncé Knowles have all utilized at one time or another.
I am on Day 3 of the Master Cleanse Diet. So far, so good. I’m still alive, People… typing this blog post! So that should be a good indication that this program doesn’t kill, right? Hehe! Juuuust kidding…
I do this cleansing at least three times a year for about two weeks at a time, and I will explain shortly why I do it. Take note though that I do not claim to be an expert on the Master Cleanse Diet, but I will speak only from the perspective of someone who understood enough of the benefits of doing this cleansing regimen regularly. Some of you might not agree with this method of detoxification, and I do respect your opinion. How I do it and how it works for me is all I intend to share with everyone.
I’m not someone who constantly fusses about her weight. When I was a little girl, I used to be Olive Oyl thin. In fact, I wished I had the ability to put on more weight back then just so I could fit better into my clothes. My body slowly started developing and reaching its ideal weight when I was in my mid-twenties. After I hit 30, it became noticeable to me and to my family that my metabolism seemed to have gotten pretty exhausted and decided to slow down. Each time I pigged out for about three weeks straight, I would see the result right away; but as soon as I started watching what I ate, losing the excess weight was always just as easy as having put it on. So I admit to y’all that for the last five years, my weight has see-sawed between “Vavavoom!” to “Holy cow…is that a cow?!” Still, I had no issues about gaining or losing weight. If I pack in a few calories from eating all the food that I love and could just not resist it, then so be it. I will just work on shedding it off a day or a week after that.
The Wake Up Call
That was what I used to tell myself until I realized one day that I have been praying to God to bless me with a long life so that I may still be around when my children get married, and that I may be able to enjoy my grandchildren when they come, and enjoy retiring with my hubby, Rick…and yet, I have been abusing my body by failing to stay disciplined enough to watch what I eat. Furthermore, I am influencing my daughter to do the same, as she sees me not giving it as much importance as I should have been. My husband is diabetic and I have resolved to the probability that he won’t be able to manage his diabetes without me constantly watching what he eats. So I realized how much my family needs me. That is why I decided to get back on the right track and start on my journey to living a healthier life.
It all has to start with cleansing my body…from the inside. Enter the Master Cleanse Diet!
What Is The Master Cleanse Diet, Anyway?
The Master Cleanse Diet, also known as the Lemonade Detox Diet, is a liquid diet drink created by alternative medical practitioner Stanley Burroughs back in 1941, but wasn’t publicized until 1990 by Peter Glickman. It is said to be the best and most effective way of cleansing the body of various toxins that have built up in your system for years. The lemon juice is supposed to be the cleansing agent that also provides nourishment; the Grade B Maple Syrup is supposed to provide energy and flavoring; and the cayenne pepper is responsible for sweeping out the sticky mucous that lines the digestive tract which makes the detoxification ineffective if not rid of properly. So make sure you don’t forget to add this very important ingredient to your drink, otherwise you won’t achieve the full effect of this detox diet.
Here is how you prepare the drink:
- 2 Tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice, or Organic Lemon Juice
- 2 Tablespoons Grade B Maple Syrup
- 1/10 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Powder – or to taste (as much as you can stand)
- 10 oz. of pure drinking water, warm
Mix all the ingredients in one big glass or mug. Drink each serving immediately. At least 6 (up to 12) glasses of this drink should be consumed everyday for at least 10 days.
The Salt Water Flush
During this diet, no solid food is to be taken in, only this drink and water, and it is also a must that you do the Salt Water Flush once every morning, starting from Day 2 up to Day 7 of the diet.
If the Master Cleanse drink is what does the internal cleansing of the toxins in your body, you will need the Salt Water Flush to thoroughly flush those nasty toxins out and to make sure that none of it stays in your colon. Like I said earlier, this solution should be taken every morning, on an empty stomach. It will taste like some kind of broth, minus the flavor (which is weird ’cause I don’t drink broth, like I would a glass of orange juice), and will make you feel so bloated towards the last gulps but it is necessary that you do your best to overcome that weird feeling because it will be for your own good, and you will see it.
After gulping it all down, just sit and relax (let it “brew”) for a few minutes; stay somewhere close to the bathroom and be prepared to make about 3-5 bowel movements (or more) after about 30minutes. So I would recommend that you do this a couple of hours before any morning appointment where you’ll be required to travel or go out of the house.
Here is how to prepare the Salt Water Flush:
- 32 oz. of pure drinking water, at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons (leveled) of sea salt (not iodized)
Just mix the salt and the water together, until the salt is completely dissolved. Drink immediately.
Making The Master Cleanse Diet Work For You
Now let me point out that the primary purpose of the Master Cleanse Diet is to get rid of the toxins in your system. The weight loss is just a secondary effect and expectedly so, since you won’t be taking in a lot of calories while you’re on this diet. So whether you are aiming to lose weight eventually, or just trying to maintain your current weight, I would strongly recommend doing a detox first so that the vital organs in your body can efficiently do what they’re supposed to do, giving you an unquestionably healthier body.
Also, I cannot stress enough the importance of exercising while on the Master Cleanse Diet. The body will detect the sudden decrease in food intake and will automatically switch to “starvation” mode, which simply means that it will start holding on to as much of the fat reserves in your body as it could. So you’d wanna burn off that fat by exercising.
Oh and one other very important thing: make sure you drink lots of water in between the Master Cleanse drink to keep yourself hydrated.
As of today, Day 3 on the Master Cleanse Diet, I have lost 4lbs. so far; but even more important to me is that I feel so light and clean inside. I used to wake up in the morning with a certain heaviness and tightness somewhere inside my body that I just couldn’t quite put my finger on. I don’t feel any of that while on this detox diet. Yesterday, Day 2, was slightly tougher for me as far as craving for food goes. I found myself thinking about food more than I did on Day 1 (and how I would love to have a cup of my Javita coffee in the morning, and a good helping of Adobo for dinner last night, hehe!). Thank God, I had the craving all under control in no time, keeping in mind that I just need to do this for myself and for my family, and the result would be a healthier, happier, more physically fit version of me! Thankfully too, I do not feel any craving for food today.
By the way, I get my Organic Lemon Juice, Grade B Maple Syrup, and Sea Salt from Healthy Options.
