10 Ways To Harness The Power Of Positive Mornings

Some time in August and September of last year, I posted a short series of motivational tips on my Facebook page which I referred to as “The Power Of Positive Mornings”.

It was very well received by my Facebook followers and friends (thanks, Guys!), so I thought I’d round up all seven posts in that series and publish it here as one blog post, along with three new additions.  That way, if you need a gentle reminder any time, you may all just go to this post and read it all over again. icon smile 10 Ways To Harness The Power Of Positive Mornings

I am a strong believer in the power of positive thinking as a way of improving one’s quality of life and reversing unfavorable circumstances.  Starting your day with the right mindset and attitude is absolutely necessary in harnessing this power to its fullest potential throughout the day.

So, without further ado, I recommend to you these 10 Ways To Harness The Power Of Positive Mornings.

1. Say a little prayer, even before you get out of bed.

As soon as you wake up, whisper a little prayer of thanksgiving to God for watching over you all through the night, for giving you another day to live and to be with your loved ones, for yet another chance to enjoy life.

2. Proclaim out loud what you wish for yourself to receive today.

Immerse yourself in that thought.  Extend the same blessing to others as you go about your day wishing them – sincerely – a great and productive day.

“May your joys be as bright as the morning, and your sorrows merely be shadows that fade in the sunlight of love. May you have enough happiness to keep you sweet, enough trials to keep you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to keep you going.”  (Irish Blessings)

3. Exercise first thing in the morning – every morning!

It may just be a 10 minute walk, a few minutes of jogging in place or a few rounds of jumping jacks.  What’s important is to try to do something every morning.  Plus, the benefits you’ll get can last until well into the night.  Exercising in the morning can jump-start your metabolism and help you sleep better at night.

“Exercise releases feel-good compounds like endorphins that improve your mood and energy levels, an effect that can last well into the afternoon if you get your workout early in the morning.  It has also been proven to increase mental focus and acuity for up to ten whole hours post-workout.  If you’re squeezing in your exercise regimen after work, you’re not taking full advantage of those ten hours.”  (itptraining.com)

4. Eat breakfast together, as much as possible.

It doesn’t have to be anything fancy.  Eating breakfast together helps reinforce communication.  Set the right tone with gentle reminders of the day’s tasks and reaffirmation of love for one another.  This refuels, motivates and prepares each member of the family for the challenges of the day ahead.  To create an even stronger bond and family tradition, make Saturday or Sunday breakfasts extra “special”.  Use your creativity or get ideas from your spouse and children.

5. Self Talk.  Soul Talk.

“Don’t underestimate the power of thoughts and words.  What you tell yourself every morning will set your mind and life on that path.  Talk success, victory, happiness and blessings over your destiny.”  (Nina Bolivares)

6. Appreciate the world around you.

As you step out into the world today, open the eyes of your heart and pay more careful attention to nature. There’s beauty even in its silence.  There’s music amidst the noise of the people.  Best of all, nature bears witness to the power, glory and love of the Almighty God!

“When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze;
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee;
How great Thou art!  How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee;
How great Thou art!  How great Thou art!

(Carl Gustav Boberg / Stuart K. Hine)

7. Start your day right by reading a short passage from the Bible or your favorite daily devotionals.

This is the least likely time of day for an interruption.  Choose a comfortable chair with a good reading light.  You have to decide how much time you can realistically commit to doing this every day — 10 minutes? 15 minutes?  Whatever you choose, start with a realistic goal that you feel you can meet and make it your daily practice.

8. Take a heaping dose of gratitude.

People with a greater level of gratitude tend to appreciate everything that they have in life – great and small blessings alike.

Being constantly mindful of things you ought to be thankful for takes away your focus on what you don’t have or can’t have, of why things are the way that they are or aren’t the way that they should be.  Gratitude leaves no room in one’s heart for envy, bitterness or discontent.  So, make gratitude a daily habit for your own well-being.

9. Set your goals.

Successful people have their goals firmly lodged in their subconscious. Goals keep us motivated and pointed in the direction toward which we should be heading.  Furthermore, ‘Time is gold’.  So, to harness the power of positive mornings and to avoid wasting precious time, daily goal setting is necessary.

Assuming you have already set your long term and your short term goals (yearly, monthly, and weekly goals), begin writing down your “Goals For The Day” on a note pad or a journal so you can have a clear picture of all that you’ll need to accomplish by the end of the day, in order to get yourself closer to your weekly, monthly and eventually, your yearly goals.  Manage your schedule around a list of “smaller tasks” (you’ll have to create this Task List yourself) that you’ll need to complete in order for you to reach your goals for the day.

10. Smile.

Even when you don’t feel happy.  Especially, when you don’t feel happy.

When you smile, you just can’t help but feel good too.  It’s impossible to hang on to a feeling of sadness or anger while smiling at the same time.  Some studies done in the 1980′s showed that when people mimic different emotional expressions, their bodies respond physiologically to reflect the emotion.

Also, when you smile, the world smiles back – it’s true.   You feel de-stressed when you smile… you feel beautiful… you look approachable – and people around you respond to that.  People want to be with people who exhibit a positive demeanor, and positive people attract more positive people!
