If you’ve been following the MyMy Blog since its early months, then you must remember the very first time I talked about the BB Cream, particularly, the many beauty benefits you can get from it. In that post, I reviewed and recommended one specific brand of BB Cream. A year later, I excitedly introduced another brand of BB Cream and have since then been a loyal user of that brand.
So, just a review — the BB Cream is short for “blemish balm” (which later on evolved into “beauty balm”). Just like what I said in my first post about this extremely hyped beauty product, it’s a modern, more improved version of the Ly-Na and San-Ing pearl face creams that people back in the 80’s were so accustomed to seeing women wear on their faces. Kaya ang pupupti ng mga fez ng mga babae noon! For a more detailed description or explanation of exactly what a BB Cream does for your skin, along with my personal comments, please refer to my two previous posts about it.
A Skin “Luminating” BB Cream? How Is It Different?
I got to sample the L’Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Skin Luminating BB Cream through my BDJ Box subscription. It came with the first (October) box, along with many other fabulous product samples. The squeeze tube that it came in looked slightly different from the regular-sized tube being advertised on their posters, but I didn’t mind.
After having tested two different brands of BB Cream and having proclaimed that I’m pretty much happy and satisfied with how these two brands performed, trying other brands didn’t really interest me anymore. So when I saw the L’Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Skin Luminating BB Cream in my first BDJ Box, the first thought that crossed my mind was (you guessed it right!), “How is this any different from the two brands I’ve loved?”
The color of the L’Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Skin Luminating BB Cream is very different — it’s white, not like the usual beige color of other BB Creams I’ve seen and tested.
The consistency of the L’Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Skin Luminating BB Cream is thicker and not runny like most other BB Creams. It has a subtle hint of shimmer and tiny specks of colored beads that disperse color or pigmentation as you work it into your skin. FYI, it was named “Magique” because it’s the first and only BB Cream that contains “Magic BB Capsules” (the tiny colored specks) that will adjust on its own after application to suit every skin tone.
I guess the most important question of all was the effect of the L’Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Skin Luminating BB Cream on the skin. The result was also different because, in my observation, it leaves sort of a powdery white finish at first and then gradually transforms into a natural-looking glow or luminous finish. The skin’s texture appears to be velvety smooth, too.
In the photo above, I was only wearing the L’Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Skin Luminating BB Cream and a dab of lip gloss. No setting powder, no concealer, and no blush either.
In my opinion, the L’Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Skin Luminating BB Cream is a good brand to use on skin that’s only slightly blemished to totally blemish-free. I say that because I’ve noticed that it doesn’t seem to provide a lot of coverage. So, if blemishes like pimples, acne marks, or age spots are your primary concerns, this might not provide the level of coverage that you will need in order to conceal the blemishes (or you might just need to invest in a really good concealer in addition to this BB Cream). In fact, as opposed to other BB Creams where a little amount goes a long way, I found myself having to squeeze out a little bit more of the L’Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Skin Luminating BB Cream in order to get a decent amount of coverage for my face. I’m afraid that can also mean that I’m going to consume a tube of this product way faster than I would my regular brand.
Having said that, I personally wouldn’t even call it a BB Cream. I don’t think it has earned that “title”, not quite yet. After all, BB Cream (again) means “blemish balm” and if it’s gonna have to live up to its name, then it’s supposed to be a foundation/concealer/moisturizer all-in-1, as well as an effective blemish treatment cream. It does a good job, however, on evening out skin tone, giving it a smoother appearance. It also enhances the texture of an already blemish-free skin by giving it a healthy glow. So, I’d probably consider it a primer or a skin luminizer instead.
So there ya go! My very brief, straight-forward and sincere review of the L’Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Skin Luminating BB Cream. Would I personally buy and use this brand of BB Cream again? Since I’m already happy with the BB Cream I’m currently using, a huge part of me would like to blurt out that I’d rather use my money on that, and just use a luminating fluid or powder if I want an extra dose of radiance and luminosity. However, I’m willing to give it one more chance. I’m interested in finding out what improvements prolonged use of this BB Cream would bring to my skin.
So I guess my answer to that question is “Why not!”, and we’ll see how it further performs.
