Making Your Fragrance Last
Have you ever wished your favorite fragrance would last longer so that you don’t come home smelling so worn out and wasted after a day’s work? A blessed few get to find a scent that’s not only right for their taste and body chemistry, but also one that lasts pretty much the entire day that they can just forget about it the moment they spray it on, just as sure as they are that they’ve got clothes on.
However, for a good majority of women, the fragrance certainly lasts only a few hours. So what do most of us do? We lavishly spray or splash on some more… but then that only leaves us with a smell that is too overwhelming to even appreciate the scent.
The secret is in layering your fragrance.
The concept behind fragrance layering is similar to applying several thin coats of paint on a wall, or nail polish on your finger and toe nails, as opposed to applying one very thick coat. The result will be a smoother, more refined finish, and a color that will last much longer.
How To Layer Your Fragrance
Remember the various brands of gift packs you see at the fragrance counter of your favorite mall? They were not packed that way just because they want to sell you more products at a time. Believe it or not, they were packed specifically for the very purpose of fragrance layering. So before we get into this step by step, make sure you have chosen your fragrance.
The Bath Soak, Body Wash or Shower Gel
For the first layer, you must first take a bath or shower using the foaming bath soak, body wash or shower gel that is included in the pack. Some packs come with an all-in-one shampoo and shower gel. That would also be good except that you’ll probably use it all up faster than you would the rest of the products, especially if you have very thick or long hair.
Body Lotion, Body Cream or Body Butter
For the second layer, lock in the moisture by applying the body lotion, body cream or body butter that is included in the pack on your damp skin.
Perfume or Cologne
The final layer, of course, is the perfume or cologne. Make sure you spray or splash it on to your skin and not on your clothes. One, the perfume might stain your clothes. Two, you want the perfume to blend in with the first and second layers of the fragrance that you saturated your body in. This completes the process of layering and making your fragrance last longer, which was kind of the point, wasn’t it? So the perfume has to go on your skin, not on the clothes. Again – skin, not clothes. Furthermore, each person has a body chemistry that reacts differently to different fragrances. Because of this, your body then, upon contact with the fragrance, emits a scent that is uniquely and distinctly your own. This is why the perfume or cologne should go on the skin and not on the clothes. This will unquestionably work in your favor because you want to be remembered for your own unique personality and characteristics. The same goes for your scent. You wouldn’t want to be remembered as someone who smelled like… someone else. Would you?
Does It Have To Be Expensive?
Now, you don’t have to spend so much on a signature fragrance layering set in order to achieve what I’ve been talking about here. I will advise you though to try to identify the most dominant note of your favorite perfume. Let’s say it’s vanilla – in that case, any vanilla scented body wash and body lotion will do the job just as effectively for your first and second layers.
