My Top Choices for the Best Lip Colors
I recently took out my makeup box and made a quick inventory of my collection of lipsticks and lip glosses. I am never contented with only a few colors, not because I simply have nothing better to spend my money on, but because I love mixing different lip colors together. I’ve always felt very pleased with myself each time I am able to create gorgeous color blends that would not have otherwise been available to me at the shops.
So what happened was that I spent literally hours of trying every color on, taking pictures (yes, that’s the most important part!), and discarding the ones I was no longer happy with (I gave them to our kasambahays). It was a very enjoyable and worthwhile activity for a “makeup addict“ like me (and I’m sure all you kikays out there can relate)!
Like I mentioned earlier, I took a few (a few daw o!) photos so that those of you who are planning on shopping for a lipstick or lip gloss soon might be able to get an idea on which brand and which type of lip color to spend a portion of your next paycheck or allowance on. For this purpose, I did not mix any colors together. What you’ll see here are the exact colors, just as they are, straight from the case/bottle. I hope you’ll find the following photos helpful since it is often very difficult to visualize whether a color suits us merely by looking at the bottle or stick. Even when you try it on using a tester, the color we see on our lips is oftentimes not the same color we see (or others see) when we step out of the shop.
So, without further ado, I hereby present to y’all my absolute favorites and best picks for the best lip colors (from my own limited collection anyway). Enjoy!
I have the Laura Mercier Lip Plumper in two colors – Rose Flush and Peach Glow. The Lip Plumper has been my biggest favorite for lip gloss because it does make my pout fuller. The top photo for each of the shades shown above was taken some time in the afternoon, without any lights on. The photos in the middle were taken with an overhead light on. The photos in the bottom row were taken in the morning, using natural day light. The reason I did it that way was to show you how each color appears under different lighting conditions.
Another huge favorite of mine is the Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss. It smells so good, you’d be tempted to lick it off your lips! I did the same thing for the photos above – photos on the top row were taken in the mid afternoon with no lights on. The middle row shows photos taken, again, with lights on, while the bottom row was that of photos taken under natural day light. It’s amazing how the two colors look almost identical on the photos, but believe me, there is actually a noticeable difference – not a lot, but noticeable nonetheless.
Dior, MAC, Clinique & The Body Shop
The only item I will comment on is the Dior Serum De Rouge – it is the latest addition to my list of go-to lip colors. It is highly concentrated with vitamins (particularly vitamin E), essential minerals and other lip care ingredients that not only protect and illuminate the lips but also prevent signs of aging. It feels so light and kept my lips hydrated for hours!
Bloom Lip Gloss has a wide range of very “sweet and cute colors. The four colors I modeled came altogether in a pack. As you can see, each color looks very subtle, very demure, it’s perfect for both young teens and the nagfi-feeling teens, LOL! Bloom is also significantly less expensive than the other brands I’ve mentioned earlier.
So there you are, Ladies – some of the best lip colors I’ve tried. Which ones did you like on me and which ones would you considering buying for yourself the next time you go shopping? By the way, I need to stress the same point I once made in a previous post that no matter what brand of lip color you choose to get for yourself, no amount of gloss or plumping effect from your lip color will ever supersede the importance of taking proper care of your lips to keep them firm, smooth and oh so kissable!
