When I created this blog almost two years ago, I had absolutely no idea what the blog was going to be about or what I would be writing about. My husband started asking me questions like, “What would you call your blog?”, “What would your blog’s tag line be?”, and “What would be your chosen niche?”, and I swear I only had the same answer for all of them — a blank look on my face. Twenty three months later, MyMy Blog has now evolved into a lifestyle/beauty/fashion blog. I was worried back then about running out of things to write about but now there’s a backlog of posts and even a longer backlog of ideas that are gushing out of me. I have turned into a blogging junkie!
As I followed other blogs before and after the birth of my own blog, I began to notice that blogging goes way beyond one’s fondness for writing. Blogging can be a very serious undertaking.
- Bloggers can get sued for what they write (especially if they do so negligently).
- Bloggers can be extremely influential. They can sway their readers’ decision to purchase or not to purchase a certain product.
- Bloggers can start an avalanche of online movements and protests.
- And (my personal favorite) bloggers can make money from blogging! Yeah, baby!
Although the internet is filled with countless methods of money-making opportunities by way of blogging, I’ve never really paid much attention to it. I’ve been content with just growing my own humble share of the blogging pie and simply focused on subject material interesting to me. I didn’t entertain the possibility of making money with my blog… until Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 happened.
Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012: ONLIne in the PHilippines
Signing up to join the Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012: ONLIne in the PHilippines blogging summit last November 18th at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel was a no-brainer for me. Reading the phrase “The Business of Blogging: Taking Your Blog to the Next Level” on the event website really had me at “Yo!”. The lineup of speakers, panelists and topics was as enticing to me as the Taco Bell menu. Good thing, the online registration process was very easy. I was completely sold from the get-go.
As the countdown to the event continued, I was growing more and more anxious to find out what the highly accomplished bloggers’ secrets are:
- How do they come up with such brilliant content for their blogs?
- How do they grow their readership?
- How do they manage to keep their readers coming back for more?
- And blogging, a business? Seriously? How much can they possibly be earning from their blogs?
- Do they even earn enough? Enough to sustain their blogging expenses at the very least?
I had so many questions and I had no doubt that Nuffnang Blogopolis was going to give me the answers I sought. I felt like an over-eager budding musician just starting to learn how to play my guitar. I felt my hunger for learning growing, and I was ready to devour anything that would be fed to me. You see, when a good portion of your waking moment is spent on thinking about what topic to write about on your next blog post, or when you find it hard to sleep at night because your brain continues to construct sentences and paragraphs long after you’ve closed your eyes, or when taking a picture of everyone’s meal has become part of the family eating out rituals, that’s when you know you’re dead serious about blogging… and I’m guilty as charged. So, yeah… I knew I was ready to take it to the next level!
It Was a B-E-A-U-tiful Sunday!
This having been my first blogging summit, I didn’t quite know what to expect from Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012. The day was bright and sunny, the sky was clear and temperature outside was warm. I carefully picked my outfit of the day and headed to the event alone. Thankfully though, being in the same room with people who share a common passion for blogging kinda automatically broke the ice. Striking up a conversation with anyone there came easy.
From the registration desk, to the sponsors booths lined up and down the hallway outside the ballroom, all the way to the stage backdrop, to say that the event was very well-designed and well-organized would still be a huge understatement. The program and flow of events were carefully and thoroughly thought out. Nuffnang Philippines successfully created a very elegant and visually stunning event — clearly setting the bar high for us, Nuffnangers!
Throughout most of the day, we got to listen to some of the country’s highly esteemed and most successful bloggers as they talked about how they got started, what worked for them and what didn’t, how they managed to adapt to the ever-changing trends and rapidly growing industry of social media and what tips and tricks they had to share with the “not-entirely-clueless” but “still-trying-to-learn-the-ropes” bloggers like myself. If I were to write down every single thing I learned from these bloggers on the day of Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012, this post would be a novel! Perhaps I can try to break it all down next time for you, My Dear Readers.
The Right Choice
For now, let me just say that I will forever be thankful to Nuffnang Philippines for having organized the event, and that every time I will try to recall this event, I will always breathe out a sigh of relief and thankfulness that I made all the right choices: I made the right choice to blog, to join the Nuffnang Community and to attend the Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012: ONLIne in the PHilippines blogging summit. Not only did I learn so much, but I also made new friends! I gained a new friend in the person of fellow blogger, Sasa Ramos-Yap, with whom I have remained in contact since the summit. I also got to finally meet THE Chuckie Dreyfus (who also hosted the morning segment of the program) and his beautiful wife Yen Dreyfus in person! I felt very blessed in so many different aspects! Other than the knowledge I acquired and the big, heavy loot bags packed with assorted goodies that I took home with me, meeting Chuckie and Yen was certainly one of the biggest highlights of my day! Hehe!
Let The Pictures Do The Talking
The big photos below were taken from my own cam, while the photos shown in thumbnails were borrowed from Nuffnang Philippines (they were so kind as to have given me permission to use their photos. Thank you, Nuffnang Philippines!). Just click on the thumbnail to enlarge a photo.
As great as all of these photos are, they still didn’t entirely capture the level of energy, fun and excitement that filled the Rizal Ballroom of Makati Shangri-La Hotel that day.
Thank you, Nuffnang and we shall all be looking forward to Nuffnang Blogopolis 2013.
