Weekend Reflections: Did You Laugh This Week?

Thank God For The Gift Of Laughter!

Yesterday, I started singing the opening line of the song “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” by Bonnie Tyler, and my daughter decided to join in.  Y’all know how it goes.  But here was what cracked me up:

Me:  “Turn around…every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you’re never coming ’round.  Turn around…”

Arra:  “…every night and day I get a little bit restless…”

Me:  Huwaaaat did you say?!

And as if that wasn’t enough, on the way home, she decided to try a little bit of OPM:

Arra:  “Si Aling Batungbakal na taga-Frisco…”

My teen diva strikes again!  Hahaha!  It may not have been the funniest thing we’ve ever heard but somehow, it was enough to send us both laughing ’til we were both drained!  At the end of the day, I thanked God for that moment ’cause we needed it… and I felt that God knew we needed it.  We were shopping all day and was really tired at that time.  We were in another city and it was going to take at least a couple of hours to drive ourselves back to where we came from.  That laugh relaxed and recharged us, so much so that we didn’t mind the traffic we had to fight our way through on the way home.

We often thank God for His many blessings but we also often overlook His gift of laughter.  Just imagine life without laughter.  It would be a lot tougher to go through life every single day.  Everyone would be so stiff, boring and depressing. Every challenge, no matter how small, will seem too heavy to bear.  Without laughter, every single day would be like any other – plain and uninteresting.

Remember the saying “Laughter is the best medicine”?  There is truth in that as well because of all the human emotions that can lift a spirit up, humor is the  most potent, and what’s even more remarkable is that the One who created laughter is also our Great Physician.

But did you know that laughter is way more than just a gift from God to entertain and brighten our day?  And it is also more than just a medicine to cure the pangs of the common life.  Believe it or not, laughter is a weapon too.  Yes, a weapon!

In the devotional called “365 Days”, it says, “Satan does not want us to be joyful.  Why?  Because without the joy of the Lord we are defeated in attitude and spirit.  The Scripture reminds us that the joy of the Lord is our strength.  It is a weapon we can use against Satan and his demonic forces…”

Now laughter flows out from the same source: the River of Joy; and not just any joy – it’s the joy of the Lord.  Our ability to laugh and make other people laugh come from God’s own bright and cheerful nature; and because we were created in His image, laughter gives us a glimpse of who God is and what He is really like – fun and has a great sense of humor!

So at the end of the week, especially when you feel so tired and worn-out, try to remember the good laugh you had (if you had any) and thank God for that wonderful gift.   He gave you the opportunity to enjoy a hearty laugh this week in order to heal you, to protect you, and to strengthen you.  :)

A Video To Make You Laugh

Meanwhile here’s a couple of very funny videos I’d like to share with y’all. The first one is the uber adorable viral video of a “talking dog”. The second is an old video from The Drew Carey Show.  I’ve always loved watching The Drew Carey Show.  The actors there are a bunch of geniuses!  Now some of you may not like the type of humor on the second video but I thought it was hilarious and I believe it was also one of the show’s finest moments ever!  It just really brought the house down for me so I’ma go ahead and share that one too.  Laugh ’til you drop, baby!  ;)

Questions To Ponder

Did you thank God for the good laugh you enjoyed so heartily this week?  How many times did you laugh this week?
