A B-E-A-U-tiful Sunday morning, Friends!
This is the day that the good Lord has made, and technically (Biblically), this day does belong to Him. “Remember to keep holy the Sabbath Day”, says the Lord (Exodus 20:8). It was also added that just as God rested on the seventh day, so must we not do any work either. In our family, we do our best to honor this commandment by God by making sure we do not do any work-related stuff throughout the entire day, nor do we require any of our staff to work either. But most important of all, that we spend the day dwelling on God’s Word, go to Sunday Worship and just remain in His holy presence consistently (ideally) all day.
It is my belief though that this commandment benefits us more than it does God. I don’t think He gets anything from our obedience other than being pleased with us and being glorified, but even that doesn’t add to what He already is. He is God. He is the beginning and the end. He is the source of all things, the beginning of all things, the completion of all things…the Be-All and End-All. Keeping the Sabbath Day holy is more for us, My Friends. When we set aside time (or one whole day, in this case) dedicated to Him alone… when we clear our schedule and spend time with Him, we allow ourselves to be recharged and refreshed by His Holy Spirit. His gentle voice suddenly drowns out the noise of this busy world, and pacifies our souls. Then and only then are we able to listen and clearly hear what He wants to say to us. Perhaps work week has burnt you out, or there’s a pressing matter that requires your decision in the next couple of days, or you’re simply feeling lonely or depressed. Spending even one day with God, dwelling in His Word, is the ultimate soul food…and in His presence, there is blessing, there is favor, there is fullness of joy!
